These earrings are made from rawhide or 'parfleche', the same material used to make the shields in the
Apsáalooke Women and Warriors exhibit. The rawhide is backed in felt, in order to bead the edge. Carrie Moran McCleary only backed the beadwork, leaving the translucent quality of the piece, which is her favorite thing about the material.
