These earrings are made from rawhide or 'parfleche', the same material used to make the shields in the Apsáalooke Women and Warriors exhibit. Carrie Moran McCleary's painted floral pattern design was used in Paris Fashion Week 2019. The rawhide is backed in felt, in order to bead the edge. She only backed the beadwork, leaving the translucent quality of the piece, which is her favorite thing about the material. The tassels are made from pigskin suede, upcycled from a vintage Nieman Marcus winter coat that she got from a thrift store in Great Falls, MT.
