A famous piece of Indian home decor, our Bells Totas are hand crafted by seven women in the remote village of Chota Narena. According to legend, the bell attached to each Bell Tota is supposed to keep away malevolent spirits and confer good luck upon a house hold!
The cutting, sewing, stuffing, and decoration of the birds, as well as their attachment to the tota strings, are split among each of the craftswoman. These artists receive their raw materials in advance and make them from the comfort of their own home. Once the work is completed they go to their village's cooperative office, sell the product for a profit, and purchase more materials to expand their business.
