Though nicknamed "Lucy," this 3.2-million-year-old skeleton may or may not have belonged to a female. At the site where Lucy was found, scientists have found many examples of two similar, but distinct, hominid types: smaller (like Lucy) and larger. Some scientists think that these are only males( larger) and females (smaller) of the same species. But others think there are two different species.
