Ancient Egyptians priests recorded important information on papyrus scrolls for use in the process of embalming and preparing a deceased soul for the afterlife. The hieroglyphics contained on these scrolls would include magical spells, as well as specific details about the intricate process: embalming, rituals, burial, and most importantly, instructions for getting to the next life. Papyrus is the world's first paper, made from thin slices of the stalk of the papyrus plant which grows along the banks of the Nile. The juices of the reed from a natural glue when dried, and the sheets of paper as so durable that many have remained intact for thousands of years.
