Mata Ortiz pottery as it is known today was founded by Juan Quezada, a self-taught potter who began experimenting with the materials of his ancestors in the 1970's. Inspired by pottery fragments, he taught himself and then went on to teach others the ancient craft of hand-built pottery. This attractive black on black pot example was made by Reynalda Quezada, and is just one of a collection available at the Main Museum Store. Height: 5 inches, circumference: 24 inches.
