More than 400 Kachinas or life bringers exist in the Hopi and pueblo cultures of the Southwest. Noted artist Jerome Nequatewa brings his master carving skills to this Owl, known as Mongwu in the Hopi language. In several ceremonial dances Mongwu leads other Kachinas to punish the Clown Kachinas for their un-Hopi like behavior.
This distinctively painted and carved piece stands 9 inches tall and is made entirely of cottonwood root.
